Medicine Hat College is currently showing its annual student art exhibition. The show, called Best of Last, opened Sept. 2 and will run through Oct. 2.

“Best of Last is always the first show of the year, and it highlights the strongest student work from the previous year,” said Jessica Plattner, instructor and co-ordinator of the art and design program at Medicine Hat College.

“It’s nice to highlight the work from the previous year, so that as new students come in, they can look around and see all the types of things they might be doing,” she said. “It’s a really nice overview of what we offer in the program.”

This year’s exhibition includes 77 student pieces representing a sample of all the college’s studio classes, including drawing, painting, print-making, sculpture and graphic design.

A public reception for the show will take place Thursday night from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. The reception will offer light refreshments and will be attended by many of the featured artists. Opening remarks will occur at 7:30.

“I hope people come out and get to know our program, if they are not familiar with it, and say hello again if they are familiar,” said Plattner.

Best of Last is showing at the One on One Gallery, located at the Cultural Centre on the Medicine Hat College campus. The exhibition is available to the public during gallery hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
