Applications opened this week for the 2025 Field Law Community Fund Program. With this year’s funding, the program has invested $1 million into 165 grassroots initiatives over the past 13 years.

The Field Law Community Fund program began in 2013, providing funding opportunities to support education, health care, at-risk youth, homelessness, women’s organizations, diversity initiatives, sports and arts and culture.

Last year, nine winners were awarded in southern Alberta, nine in northern Alberta and four in the Northwest Territories. The grand prize of $10,000 was awarded to The Immigrant Education Society (TIES) for its Legal Literacy Program. The southern Alberta organization started the program to teach refugees and immigrants about their legal rights and responsibilities in Canada.

“Each year, we’re inspired by the passionate and dedicated individuals behind the applications we receive,” says Farha Salim, managing partner at Field Law. “Reaching the $1-million milestone through the Field Law Community Fund Program is a powerful reminder of the impact local ideas can have.”

Starting last year, $50,000 is available as part of the Next Gen Award. The category was created specifically for post-secondary students in Alberta and the Northwest Territories to fund youth initiatives aimed at strengthening their campuses and communities.

Finalists for all Field Law Community Fund Program awards are chosen through a combination of public online voting and the decisions of the local Community Market Judging Panel.

Applications are open until 5 p.m. Oct. 8. Voting opens Oct. 15. Votes can be cast on the Community Fund Program website.

Previous winners are encouraged to reapply.
