newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com This month, the Alberta RCMP is sharing information to protect yourself against cybercrime. Cybercrime is criminal activity using computers and Internet technologies. Common cybercrimes include fraud, data theft and identity theft. The RCMP suggests measures like using strong passwords that are not easily guessable and using a unique password for every account. Using a password manager can help manage your passwords. Keeping software updated can also help avoid security vulnerabilities. The RCMP recommends using only private Wi-Fi networks for financial and corporate transactions. In order to avoid falling victim to scams, protect your personal information and do not click on links or files from an unknown origin. If you believe you may be a victim of fraud, report it to your local law enforcement and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. If you believe your personal or financial information has been compromised, report it to your bank and credit card company. 9
