newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Mounties are reminding residents to report any crimes directly to police and not on social media as they do not have police accounts online. “If you see something, say something,” reads a public safety reminder released Tuesday. “We would like to remind the public that we cannot police what we do not know about.” Police remind residents to contact them at 310-7267 for non-emergencies, or anonymous tips can be relayed by calling CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477. RCMP also encourage residents and businesses with surveillance cameras to consider registering their cameras with a voluntary program that helps officers quickly identify locations where cameras are in operation and present. The owners of cameras registered to CAPTURE (Community Assisted Policing Through Use of Recorded Evidence) will be contacted by investigators if they believe your camera may have captured evidence, and request you to download the footage for review. Rural residents can register cameras to capture and crime reduction programs by visiting ruralalbertacapture.ca.
