asmith@medicinehatnews.com The provincial government has launched a new Labour Market Information portal to assist Albertans and employers alike with labour-related data, indicators and trends. “Alberta’s economy is strong, diverse and full of opportunity, and we want to ensure Albertans have every tool available to seize it,” said Joseph Schow, Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration. “The new Labour Market Information portal will provide jobseekers, students and employers with the data they need to make informed choices that can strengthen their careers, build their businesses and boost our province’s economy.” According to the province, the platform, designed to be accessible to all, will help students, jobseekers, workers, employers and policymakers understand what jobs are in demand, how industries are changing and what skills are needed in today’s workforce. The province hopes having access to this information will help Albertans make informed career and education decisions, while also informing employers and policymakers on how to support workforce strategies and planning. “Reliable labour market information is essential for helping Albertans, employers, and policymakers make informed decisions in a rapidly changing economy,” said Mike Holden, vice-president and policy and chief economist for the Business Council of Alberta. “This new portal is a valuable step toward improving the accessibility and quality of labour market insights in our province, and it will support stronger workforce planning and better career choices for Albertans.” The new tool also aligns with the goals of the Alberta Jobs Strategy, the province says, supporting Alberta employers and workers by equipping residents with the tools they need to better understand the job market.
