Two days of cowboy poetry coming at the end of September

By Medicine Hat News on September 4, 2025.

An evening of Western entertainment awaits near the end of September, with the Medicine Hat Cowboy Poetry Society.

This year’s event, running Sept. 26 and 27, will take place across three Medicine Hat locations, with two free performances on the Friday, beginning at 1 p.m. at Meadowlark Village on Strachan Road. These will feature as many as 15 different performers, as well as an open mic following that evening at 7 p.m. at the Moose Lodge on Eighth Street SW.

The fun continues the next day at noon at Medicine Hat College, with an encore performance from the musicians and poets.

Admission to the afternoon show on Saturday is $10, with a chuckwagon supper to be served at 5 p.m, at a cost of $20.

Advance reservations are required for the supper.

The feature presentation, which will get underway at 7 p.m, showcases some of Western Canada’s premier entertainers, says MHCPS.

Charlie Ewing and daughter Lonnie will be first up, followed by award-winning rancher and radio host Hugh McLennan and his Spirit of the West band. Tickets for the evening show are $25.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Hale Hearing, in the 13th avenue Co-op mall, or by calling 403-529-6384.
