Premier Danielle Smith is expected to be in Medicine Hat tonight as she tours the province hosting town hall panels exploring a 2026 provincial referendum and discussing policy options meant to increase Alberta’s sovereignty within Canada.

Smith’s Alberta Next panel, which is seeking public feedback on ways to protect the province from federal overreach, is scheduled to occur tonight in Medicine Hat from 6-9 p.m., at the Cypress Centre.

Members of the public can register to attend the panel, however they are not permitted to record or film the discussion. Photo ID will be required at the door and no protest materials or signs will be allowed.

Last week the Alberta Next panel held two town halls, in Fort McMurray on Aug. 26 and Lloydminster the following day.

Later in September, Smith will host panels in Lethbridge, Airdrie, Grande Prairie and Calgary.

According to the Alberta Next Panel website, data collected from these town hall sessions will “directly inform real decisions” which could support a provincewide referendum that would be supported by Smith’s conservative government.
