Legal fees, meeting times up for debate Monday at council

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on August 16, 2025.

Monday night brings a busy evening for Medicine Hat city council.

Council returns three items of unfinished business to the meeting, with Mayor Linnsie Clark’s legal fee reimbursement being returned for a sixth time. The item was originally presented on April 22 before being pushed back five times as Clark looks for a reimbursement of $76,017.62 for fees incurred.

They will also debate an amendment from Coun. Shila Sharps to start council meetings at 4 p.m., with closed sessions to follow the orders of the day and amendments to the agenda review committee.

On the new business agenda, council will receive a presentation and vote on whether to initiate public engagement for the development of an outdoor aquatics facility on the south side of the community and the construction of sports fields in Brier Run.

Members will also vote on supporting the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s grandstand construction. The agenda reads council will vote on supporting the project with a financial contribution of 50 per cent of the total project cost to a maximum of $15,896,250 contingent on conditions involving the province committing 40 per cent and the Stampede securing the remaining 10 per cent.

The Transportation Master Plan will not be discussed at the meeting, instead on the Sept. 2 agenda.
