An RCMP investigation started Friday resulted in a standoff Sunday afternoon and two Medicine Hat residents arrested.

On Friday, the RCMP began an investigation into a break and enter at a rural property in Cypress County where several firearms were reported stolen.

On Sunday, the Medicine Hat Police Service arrested a 28-year-old woman for possession of stolen property. A 31-year-old man, later identified by police as Brandon Aman, fled and later in the day was located inside a residence in the 800 block of Ninth Street SE.

Police say Aman refused to leave, prompting a standoff involving the service’s tactical team and crisis negotiators. He was later taken into custody without incident.

A search of the residence by the major crime unit led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition and other stolen property.

Aman faces numerous charges:

– Theft over $5,000,

– Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000,

– Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000,

– Seven counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order,

– Careless storage of a firearm,

– Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

– Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm,

– Assault with a weapon,

– Uttering threats,

– Taking a motor vehicle without constant, and

– Flight from a peace officer.

Aman underwent a bail hearing and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat’s Alberta’ Court of Justice on Wednesday.

In 2017, a Medicine Hat resident with the same name was charged with careless use/storage of a firearm and possession property obtained by a crime. On May 14, 2017, a 24-year-old Brandon Aman was observed sleeping in a vehicle with a woman with unusual items, including binoculars, that raised suspicion.

Aman was woken up, identified himself and was seen to have the butt-end of a rife in between his leg and the car’s console. He was later arrested on Aug. 20 on an Alberta-wide warrant and when searched by police, brass knuckles were found in his possession. He also pled guilty to failing to appear in court on two occasions at the time.
