First Street section closed throughout August for water main installation

City crews will begin the installation of a new water main Tuesday that will cause a small section on First Street SW to temporarily close until the end of August.

The section of road that will close during upgrades until Aug. 29 includes First Street SW between Red Deer Drive SW and the entrance to Windmill Garden Centre.

During this period from Aug. 5-29, weather permitting, motorists will still be able to access Red Deer Drive and the Windmill Garden Centre.

Detour signs will also be in place throughout the temperature closure and motorists are reminded to obey all posted signage.

The work is part of the larger Harlow & Noble Parks Restoration Project that includes upgrading aging infrastructure and improving the water distribution systems resiliency.

The project requires the excavation of large areas in both parks in the area and resulted in the removal of 40 trees early this year.

After receiving feedback from residents in the community, Environmental Utilities tendered the restoration project in February with a final conceptual design of the parks that included an amenity area, shaded picnic and seating area, improved pedestrian lighting and a potential pollinator habitat in its perennial garden.
