A mixture of more than 100 new Elm, Maple, Linden, Oak, Pine and Larch trees have been recently planted in Leinweber Park after the city needed to remove some trees last year due to prolonged drought conditions.

City crews have planted a total of 106 new saplings throughout the park as a targeted restoration effort to enhance the park’s landscape and support ongoing recreation use, including disc golf.

According to the city, staff thoughtfully selected the planting locations to complement and enhance the experience for disc golfers on the 18-hole course that accompanies neighbouring Gilwell Park.

The mixture of trees are thriving, according to staff, and were chosen to ensure the best chance of survival in our often dry and challenging climate. According to the Professional Disc Golf Association, Leinweber Park is “a beautiful landscaped park a short drive from the Trans Canada. Long manicured fairways, a bit of elevation and a water hazard make this a worthwhile diversion.”
