Driver charged in

two-vehicle collision

One driver has been charged with failure to pass safely following a two-vehicle collision in the northbound lane of Highway 873 on Sunday evening.

RCMP responded to the non-injury collision shortly after 5:15 p.m. and found that a Honda Pilot attempted to pass a Chevrolet Cobalt but did not have sufficient space to safely pass and struck the bumper of the Cobalt while trying to merge back into the driving lane.

The driver of the Honda was charged under the Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation.

Stolen vehicle recovered

A stolen blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck has been returned to its owner after officers located it abandoned after it had struck and damaged a utility box.

Shortly after noon Sunday, RCMP received a report of the stolen pickup from the CDN Controls shop on Well Street.

The caller told police the pickup had been spotted traveling on Highway 36 near Highway 873, but police were unable to locate the vehicle at that time.

However, later in the afternoon police were tipped off from a resident who reported seeing the stolen pickup in an alley near Ingram Park Drive and witnessed the truck hitting and damaging a Telus utility box.

When officers arrived on scene they discovered skid and tire tracks that led them to the abandoned pickup nearby.

The vehicle was returned following a forensic examination. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
