Premier set to marshall Stampede parade after missing out last year

Hatters will be able to spot Premier Danielle Smith in at the front of today’s Stampede Parade as she will be this year’s official parade marshall.

Smith was also the official parade marshall for the 2024 Stampede parade, however she could not attend as wildfires in the town of Jasper forced thousands to flee the townsite as the fire swept through the town, destroying more than 350 structures.

Following the Stampede Parade, Smith will be attending and speaking at the Stampede President’s Luncheon held in the Cypress Centre.

MLA Justin Wright will also be participating in today’s parade and will also be an attendance at the Luncheon event.

Friday morning, MLA Smith’s and MLA Wright’s consistency offices are hosting a joint barbecue that is free for the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The News confirmed MLA Wright will be attending the barbecue that will be held in the parking lot of his constituency office located on the corner of 13 Avenue and Trans Canada Way SE.

The News contacted the premier’s office to confirm she will be in attendance for the barbecue on Friday but did not receive a response before press time.

NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi is also expected to participate in this morning’s parade. In 2024, before being elected leader of the party, Nenshi attended the Stampede Parade with several NPD members and supporters.

Following the parade Nenshi will be attending a public event held at the Miywason Friendship Centre from 2-3 p.m.

The Stampede Parade gets underway at 9 a.m. starting at the Curling Rink, following the parade ruote debuted last year.
