asmith@medicinehatnews.com The water quality advisory initially instituted in May has been lifted for Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park. The advisory, said South Zone Alberta Health Services, was initially issued on May 26 in response to poor water quality at the park beach, including potentially fecal bacteria, which could cause gastrointestinal illness if ingested. As of writing, water quality has “returned to an acceptable level and the health risk is low for usage of the river for recreational purposes, such as swimming,” said AHS. They still remind all visitors to not only Writing-on-Stone Park, but all natural waterways, that it is not safe to drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, at any time, and all water should be brought in or in some cases purified properly before being used. 6
