City crews will begin installing a new water main that will require the closure of a small section of 1 Street SW beginning on July 21 that is expected to last until Aug. 8.

The section of road that needs to be shut down includes 1 Street SW between Red Deer Drive SW and the entrance to the Windmill Garden Centre.

Motorists will still be able to access the roadway and businesses during the closure and are asked to obey posted detour signs.

Roads closed during Stampede parade

Next Thursday, July 24, several roads downtown will be temporarily closed for the annual Medicine Hat Stampede Parade.

Roads and some side roads along the route will be closed off beginning at 7 a.m. and are expected to re-open at noon.

The parade will start at 9 a.m from the Medicine Hat Police Service station and turn onto Maple Avenue before a left turn onto First Street SE.

It will then flow toward City Hall before making a left and heading down Sixth Avenue.

The parade will then turn right onto Second Street and run until Macleod Trail, where it will loop back around and finish on River Road.

Additional roads, including Finlay and Maple Avenue bridges, will also be closed during the parade.

A map of the parade route can be viewed by visiting the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s website or social media accounts.

Free tot time

Tot Time programs for children six and under at the Big Marble Go Centre are now being offered to parents and guardians for free.

The programming is offered seven days a week and offers recreation activities that promote healthy living, physical activity and learning in a tot-friendly, parent-supervised play space.

“Just check in with Customer Service and enjoy,” reads a media release.

The BMGC is able to offer the programming for free through a sponsorship with Big Marble Farms. Comparable programming at day care homes is typically offered at a flat fee of $25 for a maximum of 10 children.
