Five firearms recovered following armed robbery

A 34-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, has been charged with 16 offences after being apprehended by police following an early Wednesday morning armed robbery that occurred at a Medicine Hat home.

Police were called to reports of an armed robbery that occurred at a home in the 200 block of 8 Street SE in the early morning hours Wednesday.

Upon responding, officers quickly located and contained the suspects who fled from the scene to a home located in the 100 block of 11 Street SE.

The MHPS Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant resulting in the arrest of a 34-year-old man, as well as the seizure of five stolen firearms, along with the personal items taken during the armed robbery.

The man faces charges that include robbery, break and enter as well as several firearms charges. The accused remains in custody as the investigation remains ongoing.

“The MHPS remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community and will pursue all leads until this case is concluded,” reads a press release.

Police say this was a targeted incident and there is no further risk to the community.
