Medicine Hat’s own Gary Grinnell is taking home $10,759.50 as one of the lucky winners of the Split the Pot Lottery.
The event is put on in part by the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, one of 35 participating hospitals and health foundations across Alberta.
Each month, 50 per cent of the growing jackpot is donated as proceeds, and the remaining 50 per cent is split between 13 winners.
Grinnell is one of two winners taking home 20 per cent of the remaining half-jackpot.
“I was shocked, really shocked,” Grinnell said in a release. He added he has participated in the lottery every month since first hearing about it. “I’ve never won anything this big before. So, it was nice, and I was happy. The wife has always wanted the bathroom upstairs redone, so I think she’s going to get her wish.”
Split the Pot Lottery allows for those who participate to choose what hospital or healthcare foundation they want to support, or to “spread the love” amongst all of the participating hospital and healthcare foundations.
Proceeds from Split the Pot, including ticket purchases specifically in support of the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, go toward the cardiac care campaign Seconds Save Lives, which improves cardiac equipment and facilities at Medicine Hat Hospital.
