Known drug offender faces new charges after traffic stop arrest

Jeremiah Amero, 34, who is known by Medicine Hat Police and is from the city, faces several new charges after he was arrested Monday evening during a vehicle stop in the 400 block of Ninth Street SE.

Service patrol members spotted Amero travelling in the passenger seat and conducted a traffic stop at 11:15 p.m. and arrested Amerio after further investigation determined he was in possession of more than 19 grams of cocaine, packaged to be distributed in five separate bags.

Officers also discovered Amero was in possession of three fixed blade knives as well as two pairs of brass knuckles and more than $2,300 in cash.

Amero has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, three counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, three counts of carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, as well as two counts of breach of a weapon prohibition.

Amero remains in custody until he is set to appear before court on July 17.
