Several traffic tickets; warrants executed during “Operation Street Sweep”

On Thursday, Redcliff and Brooks RCMP Traffic Units conducted a joint operation with members of the County of Newell Enforcement Peace Officers in an police operation that focused on locating aggressive drivers, located wanted persons and conducting compliance checks on previously charged offenders.

The operation was an effort to enhance public safety and hold offenders accountable.

As a result of Operation Street Sweep, Redcliff and Brooks traffic officers issued a total of 38 traffic tickets along with 25 traffic warnings for various safety violations.

Of those 38 traffic tickets, 11 were issued for exceeding the posted speed limit.

Two drivers were issued tickets for defect notices and one driver was issued a ticket for operating a vehicle as a learner without proper supervision.

Additionally, police arrested three individuals with outstanding warrants and executed seven warrants on individuals who are required to be compelled to attend a new date before courts.

Of those arrested, a 22-year-old male was held for a bail hearing after being arrested for three outstanding warrants including sexual assault, sexual interference and failure to attend court.

A 25-year-old male was held for a bail hearing for five outstanding arrest warrants that include failure to comply with a probation order.

And a 54-year-old male was also held for a bail hearing after he was arrested with four outstanding arrest warrants including dangerous operation of the motor vehicle and failure or refusal to comply with a breath demand.

The operation included general members duties from Redcliff, Brooks and Bassaso who collaborated with investigation, traffic and peace officers throughout the region in a coordinated effort.

“Operation Street Sweep is an excellent initiative to highlight the RCMP’s capabilities and resources to put together and have a successful outcome,” said Sgt. Joe Schmidt, Bassano RCMP, about the partnership. “To work cohesively in a focused and proactive effort to make all our rural and municipal communities safer.”

Twelve compliance checks were also performed on persons in the region who are bound by court conditions and found all 12 individuals to be in compliance with their court conditions.
