City’s parks and rec working on various court upgrades

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on July 4, 2025.

The City of Medicine Hat’s parks and recreation team is renovating multiple tennis, pickleball and basketball courts this year.

A handful of courts around the city are seeing upgrades and renovations as part of the city’s efforts to enhance recreation amenities, a release reads Thursday.

The Herald Courts near Gershaw Drive are under construction and are anticipated to open in September.

Construction on the Lions Park courts is anticipated to begin in September, with completion expected for summer 2026.

Contractors will also begin upgrades on the outdoor basketball courts in Kin Coulee later this year, with construction expected to be complete by summer 2026.

Tennis and pickleball athletes will begin to see construction starting on the Monsignor McCoy High School courts this week as part of the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education’s Holy Trinity Academy project.

Those courts are located on school division property and will be closed and then removed to incorporate the total footprint of the new facility. The courts will permanently close Friday.

The Holy Trinity Academy project will see a fully accessible playground structure constructed as part of the project.
