Reeve Dan Hamilton first to officially register for Cypress County municipal election

Cypress County Reeve Dan Hamilton is the first candidate to register for the fall election in that jurisdiction.

Hamilton, a business owner in Dunmore, has represented Ward 5 (Dunmore and Veinerville) for three terms. He was first elected in 2013.

Candidates are required to register campaigns with local electoral officers before going ahead with fundraising or campaign spending.

Nomination Day is officially Sept. 22 ahead of voting on Oct. 20.

All municipalities and school boards in Alberta will hold elections on those dates.

To date, no other candidates are registered with Cypress County or Redcliff to take part in council or mayoral elections.

In Medicine Hat, five residents are listed on the city’s election website as challenging for a council position.

They are second-time candidate Kelly Allard, business owners Dana Christensen, Chris Hellman, Pamela Kunz and consultant Troy Wason.

No names are published yet in Brooks, where Mayor John Petrie has said he will not seek another term.
