Lengthy investigation leads to several charges against Medicine Hat man

Fifty-year-old Jason Carr, of Medicine Hat, has been charged with several offences after police seized two rifles with ammunition, 1.8 kilograms of cocaine and more than $35,000 in cash after searching a home in the 400 block of Sierra Boulevard on Tuesday.

The Medicine Hat Police Service says the lengthy investigation led to the execution of the search warrant that also seized multiple cartons of illegal cigarettes.

Carr is now facing a long list of charges, including extortion, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime and possession of stolen property.

Carr has been remanded into custody as is scheduled to appear before Provincial Court today.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Two suspects arrested following multiple thefts

The Medicine Hat Police Service’s new drone, along with its K-9 team, is being credited for discovering a stash of stolen goods hiding near the compound they were stolen from.

In the early morning hours of June 2 members of the patrol section located a cut security fence at a storage compound and discovered several recreation vehicles had been broken into.

Utilizing their drone and a police K-9 team, police located several items that had been stolen, stashed a short distance from the compound.

Two suspects have been identified as being involved with the thefts.

On Monday, June 9, police arrested a 46-year-old man from Medicine Hat who was charged with 11 counts of break, enter and theft, as well as a breach of probation.

No details have been released on the second suspect, however police say the investigation is ongoing.

The 46-year-old man, whose name was not released, remained in custody and appeared in court Wednesday.
