The boundaries of an inter-municipal development agreement could be shrinking again as part of amendments that are moving to public hearings in Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Cypress County this month.
That would potentially remove about 18 sections of land north of Dunmore from the CPKC rail line, which is partly comprised of a large area outlined as an aggregate and sand resource.
The IDP provides general land use framework along the common boundaries of the three municipalities, and a framework for feedback on projects.
Changes discussed at a meeting of a three-municipality working committee in April recommended the change shortly after the entire agreement underwent changes in the winter.
That update outlined industrial aspirations north of Redcliff, the potential of an ag corridor southwest of the city and would allow more residential development in Cypress County between Dunmore and Desert Blume.
But it reset the eastern boundary of the agreement area to Highway 41, in from one mile further east.
A new amendment would move the boundary from four miles east of Medicine Hat to one mile. The area would still include the hamlet of Veinerville in a rural development area in Cypress County.
Public hearings at Redcliff and county council were held this week, and Medicine Hat city council is also set to hear the issue on June 16.
