asmith@medicinehatnews.com Prairie Rose Public Schools board trustees were given an update Tuesday on the new school building project in Redcliff. The project was initially a modernization but will now be a new building altogether following the province’s announcement of its School Construction Accelerator Program. The Town of Redcliff has completed design for the necessary servicing to the site, and is waiting for the site assessment to be completed before putting the project out to tender, says chief financial officer Ryan Boser. “We are having our official kickoff meeting with the contractor that’s been selected for the site assessment on June 17, so a week from today,” said Boser during the meeting. “Once we have that meeting, I’m going to have a better understanding of the timelines required for that process.” The assessment will go through the site and ensure it will suffice for the new school, and note anything needed to do on the grounds of the school. While the current timeline is unclear, officials are confident they will be continuing to move forward with the Capital Plan project. Previous updates indicated that this work may be able to be completed by the end of August. While the construction of an entirely new school building will take longer than the previously planned modernization of existing spaces, it would afford opportunities for students, including a larger gymnasium, spectator seating, the ability to host tournaments and enhanced CTS learning space for science, trades and additional options courses. 7
