newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com A man and woman, both 36 years old, from Edmonton have been arrested and charged with drug trafficking offences following a traffic stop by Medicine Hat police last Thursday. At approximately 3:30 p.m. a patrol section member witnessed the driver of a vehicle drop an article of drug paraphernalia out of their window, leading to a traffic stop in the 600 block of Kingsway Avenue. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were identified as having outstanding warrants for their arrest and a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of several illicit drugs, weapons and cash. In total police seized 37 grams of fentanyl and 16 grams of methamphetamine. Police also discovered drug packing material used for resale, multiple drug pipes and three scales. A metal baton and can of bear spray were also discovered along with a large quantity of currency. Both suspects have been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of proceeds of crime. The male suspect has also been charged with failing to comply with a release order. Both suspects remain in custody until a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. 10
