In an effort to provide emergency services which county residents can rely on now and into the future, the Box Springs Fire Station will be moving to a new home.

Through the $1.55-million acquisition of land near the Trans-Canada Highway west of Redcliff, the station will be located at 13302 Range Road 65, alongside additional storage for response equipment.

This change comes on the heels of news that the current lease at 511 S. Railway St. in Redcliff will not be renewed, but also presents with an opportunity for the station’s future, says Cypress County.

“The new location offers increased visibility, improved access and faster response times for emergency services. In addition to day-to-day fire and public works operations, the site is also positioned to accommodate future development opportunities due to its prime location along a major transportation corridor,” the county says.

“Securing this location is about more than just bricks and mortar – it’s about planning responsibly for the long-term needs of our residents,” said Reeve Dan Hamilton,. “This investment supports our emergency services and operations today, while opening the door to further development opportunities in the future.”

The county will take possession of the new site Aug. 1.
