Colin Desnoyers, who serves as the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education’s director of curriculum, has been nominated for this year’s French Immersion/French Second Language Education Professional of the Year Award that is presented annually by Canadian Parents for French and the Alberta French Language Education Consortium.

The French education award recognizes educators who are committed and innovative toward French second language education within the classroom.

According to a press release by MHCBE, Desnoyers’ nomination acknowledges his passion, dedication and outstanding contributions to French immersion learning within our school division.

“A testament to the impact he has on students, colleagues and the broader French language community,” said Dwayne Zerichny, superintendent. “His work continues to elevate K-12 French language learning at MHCBE, and we are incredibly proud of his accomplishments.”

Before assuming his role as director of curriculum in March 2024, Desnoyers was the vice-principal at St. Mary’s School and has “worked tirelessly” to improve K-12 French Immersion educational experiences across the school division.

Notability Desnoyers was integral in developing the division’s well received “A Very Merry French Christmas” performance that features an evening of French Christmas carols sung by K-12 students.

Canadian Parents for French is an organization that was founded more than 40 years ago to promote and foster bilingual educational opportunities, and is run by a national network of educators and volunteers who value French as an integral part of Canada and is funded, in part, by the Government of Canada.
