The Root Cellar is thrilled with the success of this year’s Food Round Up, which will ensure people in the region can rely on them in the days to come.

This year’s total came to 45,127 pounds of food, said the Root Cellar, thanks to the generosity of the people of Medicine Hat and the dedication of the volunteers who made it happen.

As the third annual Food Roundup, this ensures the Root Cellar will have full shelves during the summer months, a time of year when donations typically slow down, but thanks to residents, businesses and volunteers, those who use the Root Cellar will be able to continue to access food when they need it.

“Going to 30,000 homes in one day is no small feat, and we couldn’t do this event without so much support. We are so grateful to have our shelves full for the summer months,” said Melissa Mullis, executive director of the Root Cellar.

“From the people who left food on their doorsteps to the dedicated volunteers who walked routes, sorted donations and loaded trucks, we are overwhelmed with gratitude,” said Mullis. “This year’s Round Up was not just about collecting food; it was about demonstrating the power of community. Every can, box and bag made a difference.”

The Root Cellar expressed thanks to everyone involved in the event.

“Together, we showed what’s possible when a community comes together with a shared purpose: to ensure that no one goes hungry,” reads a statement.
