newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Medicine Hat police say there are no risks to the public after a man was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a shooting downtown Saturday. Officers were called to the parking lot of the Mayfair Manor apartments, located at 407 Fifth Ave. SE, and located a male victim who had sustained multiple injuries. The Medicine Hat Police Service Criminal Investigation Section says the incident took place in the parking lot, and preliminary findings indicate the incident was targeted and there is no risk to the public. The investigation is ongoing and further updates are expected to be provided when available. Arson Police have charged an unnamed 48-year-old male of Medicine Hat for arson and shop breaking with intent after a garage was deliberately set on fire Friday night. City police and firefighters responded to a garage fire at a home located in the 700 block of 10th Street SE at approximately 10 p.m., which resulted in damages estimated at $5,000. No injuries were reported, however the accused has been detained for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and remanded into custody until his court appearance. B & E Medicine Hat Police arrested a man hiding in a closet of a business and charged him with two counts of break and enter after he was discovered last Tuesday night. Officers say they responded to a report of a break and enter shortly before 8:30 p.m. on May 27 at a professional building located on Seventh Street SE. During a search of the premises police located the 34-year old man hiding in the closet and arrested him. The man, who is not named, was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody until his court appearance. 15
