The Medicine Hat Tigers are back in town after a loss in the Memorial Cup final on Sunday and preparing for a final celebration of the season with fans at Co-op Place tonight.
The team arrived in Medicine Hat at about 9 a.m. following an overnight charter flight back from Rimouski, Que. and bus trip from Calgary.
A short program then mixer with supporters and team members is set to begin at 7 p.m. on Monday at the team’s arena.
“There’s a really special group in here; I’m really proud of these guys,” Medicine Hat captain Oasis Wiesblatt told reporters after the Western Hockey League champions fell 4-1 the Ontario League title-holder London Knights on Sunday. “(Medicine Hat has meant) the world to me. The people, the coaches, my teammates. It’s been incredible for me… Medicine Hat’s a special spot. Don’t take that for granted.”Several thousand local fans watched from Co-op Place on Sunday as the team sought its third franchise Mem Cup title after winning their sixth league title earlier in May after posting a conference-best record of 47-17-3-1.
Medicine Hat earned a spot in the finals three wins in round-robin portion of the four-team tournament.
