The 2025 Spectrum Festival opened in Kin Coulee on Friday, kicking off the 34th year of the free summer celebration.
The opening ceremony featured dignitaries MLA Justin Wright and MP Glen Motz, who expressed gratitude to the community of Medicine Hat for continuing to come together to make events like this possible.
“This festival has been running for 34 years. It’s amazing that in that length of time, the committee keeps going, and they get bigger and better year after year after year. It’s great to see, so thank you to Bill (Woolmer) and the committee for the work that you guys do to put this on,” said Motz. “This is about community. People coming together, meeting new friends and spending time with family and existing friends and just enjoying the start of summer, which is really what this festival is about.”
The sentiment was echoed by Wright, who had been the president of the Spectrum Festival previously. He expressed greetings on behalf of the premier and well wishes for the success of the weekend.
Spectrum Festival will continue into both Saturday (11 a.m. to 1 a.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), with free entertainment, a variety of vendors and forecasted pleasant weather in Kin Coulee for the duration.
“I hope, also from a community standpoint, that folks get out here and get to experience a little bit of what Medicine Hat has got to offer,” said Wright.
