Elevated levels of fecal matter have prompted a water quality advisory for Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park from South Zone Alberta Health Services. At current levels, gastrointestinal illness may result from ingestion of the water at this beach at Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park, says AHS. As well, there is the possibility of skin, ear and eye infections with water contact. These elevated levels were discovered during testing of the river water at the beach location. Visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, at any time. Water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea. This advisory will remain in effect until further notice, and officials will continue to monitor the quality of the water. 5
