Construction fencing was coming down Monday afternoon as paving and line-painting crews were completing their work on Third Street in the city centre.
The road and underground utilities along the 500 to 600 blocks of Third were rebuilt in 2024, and this month crews completed the top-lift of paving to wrap up the project.
This spring crews began working on the fifth phase of the $7-million set of upgrades in the area, comprising sections of Sixth Avenue. That work is scheduled to be complete later in June.
River Road closed
A flood readiness drill will lead to the closure of a portion of River Road below city hall on Wednesday.
Crews will be testing and practising flood gates from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. that day. The test will prevent access to the city hall parkade as well as through traffic on River Road.
The parkade at the Court of King’s Bench complex will be accessible from the Fourth Avenue access to River Road, and access to the Medicine Hat Public Library as well as Ash Avenue should not be affected.
The trailway along the road should also remain open to pedestrians, according to a city release on Monday.
