The Alberta Drama Festival Association’s One Act Festival Provincials are coming to Medicine Hat on May 30 and 31, bringing with them multiple days of province-wide artistic talent.

The location of the provincial festival varies from year to year, but this year sees the Cypress Region hosting the winners from the various One Act Festivals from throughout the province.

This region hosted its own festival on April 12, which also featured a showcase of Medicine Hat High School Student performances. The upcoming event will consist of winning performances from different regions, which will be adjudicated.

A one-act play is a medium with a great deal of variety, consisting of any story with a beginning, middle and end ranging from 10 minutes to an hour without an intermission. There can be as few as a single person on stage, or a full cast.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. on Friday, with the show starting a half hour later. On Saturday, there is both an afternoon and evening performance, with doors opening at noon and 7 p.m. respectively, at the Karen Cunningham Theatre at Medicine Hat High School. Entry is by donation.
