The Capital Project Map, as well as Road Construction and Closures Map, have been updated for Medicine Hat’s 2025 construction season, keeping residents informed of closures and potential disruptions as they move through the city.

The update, says the City of Medicine Hat, enhances the interactive features of the map, making the expanded information offered more clear to those seeking to use it.

Projects from all four City of Medicine Hat divisions are represented on the map, though only projects that have anticipated service interruptions or notable closures will be listed. Each project on the map includes a brief description, planned and actual timelines, approved project costs and contact information for those wanting to learn more.

“The new map has benefits both internally and externally,” said Pat Bohan, managing director of the development and infrastructure division. “Internally, it allows all departments to plot their projects themselves, and see what other departments have input, enhancing our ability to capitalize on synergies to reduce impact to the public. Externally, the community has a much broader view of the work with a new dashboard and these upgraded filtering tools.”

The initial map launched in 2021 to better inform residents of upcoming, in-progress and completed construction projects, with the new map gaining a focus on providing information about large projects that are likely to impact or disrupt regular day-to-day functions of residents.

“If, for instance, our work will disrupt traffic or close a public amenity for an extended period, it will be on the map. Work on a lift station that is off the beaten path, or unplanned short-duration closures of trails and roads, will not,” added Bohan.

The city reminds residents that this map does not indicate which roads, sidewalks or trails are currently closed for construction, events, or other traffic accommodation purposes, as this information is represented on the Road Construction and Closures Map.

The Road Construction and Closures Map informs residents of closures on roads, sidewalks and trails in Medicine Hat, for reasons beyond capital projects. Users can view which closures are active and which are upcoming to better plan their commutes accordingly.

Both maps have received an update to improve clarity and ease of use, and can be accessed through the City of Medicine Hat website.
