@MedicineHatNews Non-commissioned British armed forces personnel will receive a 4.5 per cent pay hike this year, which the British Ministry of Defence says is above inflation, “recognizing their extraordinary professionalism and the sacrifices they make to keep the British people safe.” Senior officers will see a 3.75 per cent increase, it was announced Thursday. The increase comes after a 6 per cent raise for most personnel in 2024. “The award forms part of the government’s efforts to fix recruitment and retention, while demonstrating how it is renewing the contract with those who serve,” reads a release from the ministry. The 2024 changes also included an additional increase of 35 per cent for new recruits and keeps the military in line with “living wage employer” standards in the United Kingdom. Starting salaries for “other ranks” is now 26,300 Pounds annually once training is compete, covering about 7,800 junior personnel. Starting pay for junior officers rises to about 34,700 Pounds. A new 8,000-Pound retention payment program is available to 4,000 eligible army privates and lance corporals in each year for the next three if they sign up for an additional three years of service. 8
