asmith@medicinehatnews.com There have been changes to upcoming meeting dates for Cypress County council, as well as changes to how residents or interested parties may appear before council. The meetings for July 1 and Aug. 5 have been cancelled, with one meeting in each month on July 15 and Aug. 19, respectively. These meeting dates have been modified to better accommodate statutory holidays and common vacation periods, in hopes of allowing for better availability for both council and staff for meeting attendance. Changes have been made to how delegations may appear before the council, setting firmer and more transparent guidelines for those wishing to appear as delegations. Timelines for when a request must be submitted, as well as when materials must be submitted for IT review, have been set. Guidelines for delegation content standards and eligibility have been revised to be more clearly outlined, adding reasons that a delegation may be denied, such as being libellous, outside county jurisdiction, or under judicial or tribunal review. Additionally, the policy states that unless determined to be confidential, all submitted material would become public record. This change, the county says, was made in the name of a commitment to transparent government, as well as make it easier for staff to prepare council agendas and schedule delegations. 9
