A Medicine Hat man accused of attempting to murder police officers by firing a gun during a standoff with authorities last summer has pled not guilty to 12 charges and will stand trial in provincial Court of Justice.
An agent for Cole Anthony Scory’s attorney made a formal plea and election on Tuesday, sending the matter to the court management office to schedule a pre-trial conference and multi-day trail.
Scory has been housed at the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatric Centre since August 2024 and did not appear in court Tuesday.
Court heard in February that psychiatric reports ordered by the court found the accused is capable to participate in proceedings.
Medicine Hat police say that on July 27, 2024 officers responded to a report of a gunshot at an apartment block on the Southwest Hill and were injured while standing at the building’s entrance when another shot was fired from within a suite.
Scory faces four counts of attempted murder, single counts of unlawful use of a firearm, intent to injure, discharging a firearm, possessing a firearm with out a licence, assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of pointing a firearm.
