asmith@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Police Service expressed gratitude on Tuesday morning following a relatively quiet May long weekend. Insp. Jason Graham told the News that while police did experience a small increase in calls, he could attribute that simply to there being more people outside and moving throughout the town. “People were well behaved this weekend. We didn’t have any reports of anything significant,” said Graham. “We did see an uptick in our calls for service over the weekend, which is no surprise, but we often see that starting around May long weekend.” As the weather improves, says Graham, and more people are spending time out in the community, be that in parks, on boats, or any number of outdoor activities, it means there are more eyes and ears in the community, which can result in more calls for service in comparison to the middle of winter, when most people opt to stay home. MHPS thanked residents for staying safe over the long weekend. 7
