@MedicineHatNews Electricians at Enmax have applied to hold a strike vote at the City of Calgary-owned power company. Almost 400 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 254, have been without a contract since the end of 2024. The two sides had been engaged in mediation, according to the latest summary of collective bargaining published by the Alberta Jobs Ministry. On May 14, the union local, which represents workers at a number of publicly controlled power companies, applied for a strike vote in the Enmax matter. City of Medicine Hat line and power plant workers signed a new four-year agreement at the end of 2024 that provides a nine per cent wage hike by the end of 2027. Last month, a related local, IBEW No. 1007, agreed to a 10 per cent total wage increase over three years for 149 members employed by the City of Edmonton. Unionized workers at the Lilydale poultry processing plant in Edmonton will vote on striking, while the employer has requested a lockout poll, according to the Alberta Labour Relations Board. The company and United Food and Commercial Workers, Local No. 401, have been in mediation to renew a contract that expired in March 2024. 10
