A 26-year-old Medicine Hat man is facing several charges after he was taken into custody earlier this week for attempting to evade police. On Sunday, a service patrol member spotted a vehicle on College Drive and 13th Avenue SE with a driver who was suspended on a Canada-wide licence prohibition. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle the driver fled at high speeds. Police did not pursue the driver due to public safety concerns. However, a short time later the same vehicle was observed near the suspect’s residence and once again the suspect fled on a bicycle northbound on Dunmore Road. With the assistance of the MHPS K-9 unit and drone team, the suspect was located and arrested without injury in the 800 block on Ninth Street SE. The man has been charged with two counts of operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, fail to comply with release order conditions, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer and flight from a peace officer. The man was held for a Judicial Interim Release hearing and remanded in custody until his Tuesday court appearance. 8
