newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Seven Persons will be hosting its annual parade Saturday morning to will be followed by several activities and events around the community throughout the day. The parade begins at the community hall at 9:30 a.m and will be making a loop around town before returning back to the community centre. This year’s parade marshal will be Shirly Elliott, who has been recognized for her local volunteer and organizing efforts, as well as her cooking skills for kids that attend the Southern Region 4-H Camp. Parade goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs to catch all the action along the route. Parade organizer Karen Murray suggests sitting in front of the Seven Persons School for a good view. “And then you can see it coming all the way from the community hall and all around,” says Murray. Following the parade there will be a barbecue with sausage on a bun, with funds raised going toward children programs at the Seven Person’s Church, as well as children’s activities like bouncy castles. At 11 a.m. Cypress County Fire Service is inviting the community to attend a grand opening ceremony and tour of the new fire hall, as well as kids activities, recruiting information and a display of fire apparatuses. The day also falls on the anniversary of the well known Premium Sausage company, which will be running a sale at its Seven Persons location throughout the day and will also be providing guests with door prizes and free cake and coffee. Crowsnest Cones will also be open throughout the day to a sweet treat following the barbecue. “Get everybody together, have a sausage on a bun, maybe a beer at the bar and parade, hang out as a community,” said Murrary. Stargazers are also invited to an open house held by Seven Skies Astronomy at the Sunridge Observatory along Range Road 72. 13
