asmith@medicinehatnews.com Volunteers will be working to keep Alberta’s highways clean today, and as such, the province is asking drivers to be on the lookout during their travels. Between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m, volunteers wearing bright safety vests will collect trash along Alberta highways to raise funds for community organizations. “On May 3, let’s come together to keep Alberta’s highways clean and safe for everyone. A genuine thank-you to all the volunteers participating in this year’s annual highway cleanup,” said Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors. “Your time and effort make a real difference and create a cleaner, safer Alberta one highway at a time.” Volunteers will consist of 4-H clubs and various other sports teams and other non-profit organizations, earning $100 from the Alberta government for every kilometre of highway they clean. Drivers are reminded to slow down, obey signs, watch for pedestrians and use caution when passing cleanup crews. 7
