RCMP say criminal charges are anticipated in an ongoing investigation following a theft of approximately $25,000 in cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets from the Bassano Family Foods grocery store in April.

According to officers, three suspects smashed the front glass door of the grocery store at approximately 2:45 a.m. on April 9 and proceeded to rob the premises.

Bassano RCMP utilized forensic services, including Crime Analysts’s and CCTV footage, and say the break and enter is related to a criminal ring completing several other similar thefts in southern Alberta.

No further details can be released as the investigation is ongoing.

Potato’s everywhere

Spuds covered the highway outside Brooks Wednesday afternoon after a semi-truck transporting a load of potatoes blew a trie and ended up tipping over in a ditch.

RCMP were called to the single-vehicle incident on Highway 36, just south of Highway 539, at approximately 3:20 p.m Wednesday after the truck lost control and veered into the west-side ditch.

No injuries were reported, and first responders along with Volker Stevin crews attended the scene to assist with the cleanup.

Calls for service

During April, Brooks RCMP have reported responding to more than 500 calls for service while issuing more than 160 traffic violations and 61 warnings.
