Cypress County puts fire advisory in place

Cypress County joined other municipalities in moving to a fire advisory on Monday. It allows county officials to deny burn permit requests and potentially charge costs to anyone disobeying the order for the cost of wildfire response.

Dry spring conditions led to similar orders in Vulcan and Lethbridge County, as well as Special Areas.

Residents are reminded to use vigilance and caution.

Irrigation opens this weekend

The St. Mary’s River Irrigation District says water will be available on many parts of its system by Friday, and in all areas by the end of next week, according to an April update to members.

Similarly, the Eastern Irrigation District has given a May 1 date for initial availability and across the district by May 8.
