asmith@medicinehatnews.com For those living with chronic illness or caring for those who do, Alberta Health Services is offering a free six-week virtual workshop to help live better lives. Better Choices, Better Health is a six-week series of workshops designed to support Albertans who are living with chronic pain or chronic health conditions, said AHS. The workshop will run on Zoom from 1-3:30 p.m. every Tuesday for six weeks, starting May 13. The workshops are led by trained volunteer leaders, many of whom live with a chronic pain condition themselves. This aims to ensure an understanding of the challenges participants face. “Because those living with ongoing health conditions are often faced with the same day-to-day challenges, Better Choices, Better Health focuses on teaching tools and techniques common to all chronic pain conditions,” says AHS. Topics covered will include symptom management, healthy eating, increasing physical activity, strategies for communicating with health-care professionals, emotional regulation and general tips for improving quality of life while living with chronic pain or illness. Interested participants require access to a device with an internet connection, camera and microphone. To register, call toll-free at 1-866-795-9709. 8
