As part of a broader funding initiative from Alberta’s United Conservative government, Cypress County is set to receive $29,749 to help keep residents safer.

Alberta’s United Conservative government is investing more than $1 million through the Fire Services Training Program Grant to support more than 65 local fire services across Alberta, said the province.

The funding provided to Cypress County through the Fire Services Training Program Grant will help support them in delivering a wide range of training for their firefighters, and allow them to continue to be the first on the scene for when residents need it most.

“This is great news for our riding, ensuring we have increased supports to champion the work of our firefighters. I will continue to advocate for our local first responders who do the selfless work of keeping our community safe and secure,” said Justin Wright, MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat.

The sentiment was shared by Ric McIver, Minister of Municipal Affairs, who expressed the importance of local firefighters receiving training reflective of industry best standards and that fits the needs of their communities.

“Firefighters put their lives on the line to protect us, and we’re making sure they have the training they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said McIver. “Well-trained fire services are essential to keeping our communities safe, and these grant investments will help firefighters respond with skill and confidence when Albertans need them most.”
