Man charged after allegedly stealing two vehicles, damaging property while evading Brooks RCMP

William Holub, 43, from Calgary has been charged with several offences after allegedly stealing a Jeep and erratically driving it through a fence and ditch last Saturday evening.

Brooks RCMP received a complaint of a stolen 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been located at the Canada West Storage facility shortly after 11:20 p.m. on April 19.

When police attended the scene they found the stolen Jeep at the entrance of the storage facility, however upon seeing police, Holub fled in the Jeep, driving through a fence and ditch.

A short time later Holub abandoned the Jeep in a nearby field and fled on foot. Police Dog Services were called to attend.

However, shortly after Holub fled on foot, RCMP received a report that a Ford Explorer had also been stolen in the nearby area.

Police later located the stolen Ford Explorer in Three Hills and successfully apprehended Holub, who has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, break and enter and flight from police.

Holub was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the court today.

ATM theft

An ATM was stolen from the entryway of the Montana’s restaurant in Brooks last Saturday night and police are seeking details from the public on the incident.

Mounties were called to a break-and-enter at the restaurant and were able to clear the building without incident.

When the owner of the restaurant arrived on scene they advised police that the ATM located in the entryway was taken and a section of flooring where the machine had been bolted down was damaged. The front door of the restaurant was also smashed.

Police have obtained surveillance footage and other evidence from the scene and are asking anyone with information to contact the local detachment by calling 403-362-5535.
