newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com During the first Sunday in May, residents are invited to attend a free family FunFest featuring a walk-run to support mental health, as well as a free barbecue, outdoor games and movement stations. The Move for Mental Health & Family Funfest will run from 1-4 p.m. on May 4 at the Medicine Hat Public Library and is dedicated to raising awareness and taking meaningful steps towards better mental well-being. The event, presented by Community Coming Together, will be centred around the 12th annual Move 4 Mental Health Walk-Run that encourages participants to wear green colours and silly hats to help break the stigma surrounding mental health. The 2 or 4 km walk-run is non-competitive and no entry fee or fundraising is required. The event is held in collaboration with the public library, Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education and Recovery Alberta. “Whether you prefer to walk, jog, or run, every step you take helps break the stigma surrounding mental health,” reads a statement from MHCBE. Children’s characters are also expected to visit the family event that will also include a quiet corner for kids. Community Coming Together is a mental health capacity-building program that aims to promote mental wellness within local Catholic schools and is funded through Recovery Alberta. 10
