The crop is in the ground for the 26th annual effort of the local Canadian Food Grains Bank. Organizers for the Medicine Hat chapter inform the News that seeding 130 acres in south Medicine Hat began Tuesday afternoon.
Parker Weiss, of Hatview Dairy, volunteered to plant the crop of spring wheat, which will be sold at harvest to support emergency food relief efforts around the world.
Acreage is about double from previous years at the field located north of S. Boundary Road at 10th Avenue entrance to the Coulee Ridge subdivision.
